First Love Day

First love and the accompanying emotions, the feeling of the first butterflies in the belly and the flushing of the face are the most beautiful things in life. Each of us, no matter who our first love was or when we felt it, never forgets it for the rest of our lives. On September 18, on the Day of First Love, we have a unique opportunity to remember this feeling or even experience it for the first time.

Trio:
Sharing a love of classic jazz and the great standards of the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, the members of the trio tip the hat to the jazz giants and composers that have influenced them - Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, Art Tatum, Israel Crosby, Ahmad Jamal, Nat King Cole, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter, to name a few. The trio has a sound steeped in tradition, but always remains creative and inventive. They are the ultimate modern day swingin’ unit.

The three artists, known for nimbleness on their respective instruments, pride themselves on clean, graceful, toe-tapping execution. Listening to the trio play is a swingin’ affair of sophisticated, melodic and exciting "edge of your seat" improvisation. The improvisation occurs over songs from a cannon of music known as The Great American Songbook. The result is fiery straight-ahead jazz with melodic elegance, nonchalant grace, and a worthy homage to the American jazz greats.

Konrad Paszkudzki:
Konrad Paszkudzki has recorded 7 albums for Venus Records in Japan with his trio. He toured the world for 7 years with the John Pizzarelli trio performing over 1000 concerts in jazz venues, concert halls and theaters. He is currently the Artistic Director of a number of arts organizations across the United States as well as leading a residency with his trio at the prestigious Friars Club in New York.

SYLWESTER OSTROWSKI

Jazz saxophonist, composer, music producer and leader of the band The Jazz Brigade from Szczecin. New Year's Eve builds global cultural links with jazz. He has three albums so far; the last one is In Our Own Way, where he undertakes a cultural exchange, combining American and Polish jazz, classical music of Fryderyk Chopin and traditional music of Poland and Japan.

As an excellent tenor saxophonist, band leader, producer, composer and leader of jazz, Sylwester pays tribute to the legacy of David Brubeck's quartet's trip to Poland, behind the Iron Curtain, in 1958. He appears on the album with his band The Jazz Brygada composed of Freddie Hendrix, Dorota Miśkiewicz and a special guest Darius Brubeck. The fourth track, "In Your Own Sweet Way", is performed by Darius Brubeck, the eldest son of Dave Brubeck, who was touring his father sixty years ago in 1958. The importance of this piece confirms that jazz continues to play a key role to Szczecin, which has been called the "Jazz Capital of Poland".

On a national scale, New Year's Eve was recently honored with the title of the Honorary Ambassador of the City of Szczecin, but his path to becoming a jazz artist and a leader in the jazz world was not easy, because those who lived in the communist era were deprived of artistic freedom and expression. Belonging to the Polish People's Republic also meant that Sylwester had to start working earlier, at the age of fifteen, to help support his family. Nevertheless, Sylvester's dream, inherited from his father and uncles, was always to be a musician. He attended a music high school hoping to finish school and become what he is today. His studies at the Academy of Music. Karol Szymanowski in Katowice, a prestigious music school, had to wait and he stopped his music career, promoting art for the authorities and the Szczecin community. At that time, he became a leading force in establishing the Szczecin Academy of Arts. As a music producer, he became a cultural advisor to the president and the City Hall of Szczecin. The breakthrough came when he produced music for Piotr Wojtasik, who offered him a recording session with leading American musicians, including Newman T. Baker, Wayne Dockery and Reggie Moore.

Sylwester Ostrowski is a rare case in the Polish artistic world. He successfully combines the role of music - a jazz saxophonist with cultural animation, incl. creating the Szczecin Jazz Festival. He has recorded with the American jazz singer Deborah Brown and has toured alongside genres such as Bobby Watson, Wynton Marsalis and Keyon Harrold. The hospitality that New Year's Eve provides to artists, partners and guests when visiting Szczecin is legendary, and has recently collaborated with Keyon Harrold, Erykah Badu performing with Culture Revolution, Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center, Deborah Brown, Piotr Wojtasik, Bobby Watson, Darius Brubeck, Miki Hayama, Newman T. Baker, Wayne Dockery, Essiet Okon Essiet, Yakov Okun, Anders Bergcrantz, Eric Allen, Freddie Hendrix, Dorota Miskiewicz and the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra. Internationally, Sylwester has performed at many international world music jazz festivals, as well as in renowned jazz clubs around the world, such as the inaugural concert of Jazz Sister Cities in Kansas City, MO USA; Szczecin Jazz in Szczecin, Poland; Jazz on the Dnieper in the Dnieper, Ukraine; Yamaha Ginza Hall in Tokyo, Japan, Safaricom International Jazz Festival in Nairobi, Kenya, and Blue Note in New York, USA.

With their work, they can touch the most sensitive strings in the hearts of the listeners. The music is a combination of Asia's unique voice and the sounds of an acoustic guitar with a piano, sometimes a recorder, circulating in styles such as soul, worship, she escapes from typical known musical styles.
